A Cytokine-Mediated Anti-Metastasis Therapy for Breast Cancer

Abstract

PUBLIC ABSTRACT Women have a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer during their lifetime. For the majority, the disease is detected early and the cure rate is high. However, for about 20% of cases, the disease spreads to other organs, causing severe symptoms and high mortality. For these patients, there are few treatment options. We have been using a mouse model of breast cancer that has spread to lungs and bone in an effort to identify the genes that control the spread of the tumor cells.
